What you can find here that you cannot easily find elsewhere
- How hard it is to get in. Applications against places, read from each school's own Annual Admission Notice — the figure that actually decides whether a child gets a place, and one nobody publishes centrally.
- Fees. Where a fee-paying school publishes a figure, it appears with the school year and a link to the page it was read from. Where one does not, we say so instead of guessing.
- Special-class provision. Straight from the NCSE: how many classes, of which type, and which schools are opening one for the first time.
- School transport eligibility. Drop a pin on the map and it works out whether you would qualify — including the Irish-medium and minority-denomination exceptions.
- The area, not just the school. Local house prices, the Pobal deprivation index for the electoral division, and the Department's own planning area.

One thing worth being clear about
Ireland has no school catchment areas. Under the Education (Admission to Schools) Act 2018 every school sets its own oversubscription criteria and a child may apply to any school in the country. Nothing on this site tells you whether a child will get a place — for that you need the school's own admissions policy. What the map shows is the Department's planning areas, which govern where capacity gets built.
